Kue the Dinosaur first appeared on DeviantArt in 2012 and was initially mistaken for a dragon rather than a dinosaur. This character gained popularity due to Kue's unique and humorous facial expressions, which fans began editing and using in various memes. It quickly spread, especially on Facebook, where Kue's images were commonly used to express emotions in the mfw (my face when) style.

As Kue's popularity grew, its creator, Fayzon "Toasty" O'Brien, established a community for Kue fans called "Cult of Dinosaurs," providing a space for fans to share fan art and related content.
