The "Roll Safe" meme originates from a character named Reece Simpson (or Roll Safe) in the British web series "Hood Documentary." Played by Kayode Ewumi, the character gained fame from a scene in a mini-documentary uploaded to BBC Three's YouTube channel in June 2016. In this scene, Reece points to his head while saying, "She's smart," referring to a woman.

This moment first became a meme on Twitter in early 2017, evolving into a way to mock decisions that seem clever but are actually absurd or illogical. For instance, jokes like "If you don't check your bank balance, you won't know you're broke" became widely shared.
