Origin

The line comes from the final stage of Mnet's Show Me The Money 9 in 2020. The track is lIlBOI's "ON AIR (Feat. Loco, Jay Park & GRAY)", produced by GRAY with Loco and Jay Park featuring. The passage in question is Jay Park's: he lists Koreans who have made it on the world stage and then appends his own name — "BTS, Bong Joon-ho, Son Heung-min, Jay Park, let's go."

The intent was earnest. Placing himself behind names that reached world-class status in their fields — BTS in music, Bong Joon-ho in film, Son Heung-min in football — was a declaration that he was aiming for that tier. Listeners, however, noticed the gap between the first three and the fourth before anything else, and that drop became the joke.

The format is simple: list three names nobody disputes, then slot in a fourth that does not belong. Variations are therefore endless — famous brands followed by a corner shop, elite universities followed by something absurd.

The feeling it names became equally clear: the sensation of stepping into a line you know you do not belong in, or the impulse to tease someone who has done exactly that. The ambition of the original lyric, in other words, got flipped into self-deprecation.

Jay Park is aware of the meme and has referred to it cheerfully on several occasions. Because he keeps playing along whenever the line is quoted on TV or social media, the teasing never hardened into malice and the joke has stayed in use.
