Origin

The line comes from the main trailer for TVING's dating show Transit Love 3. The trailer dropped on December 15, 2023, and the series itself began streaming on December 29. The season was built around a "breakup delivery" device that brings former couples face to face again, and the trailer included a male cast member snapping at his ex: "You said 'baby, I'm sorry,' didn't you? It became a meme because the structure is so clean. It is a counterfactual grievance — "if you had only done A, B would never have happened" — delivered by someone genuinely worked up, so the tone is dead serious. Take a register heavy enough to pass for TV-drama dialogue and drop it onto something utterly trivial, and the gap does the work.

Spread

Variations poured out on X the moment the trailer went up. Since only the two slots need changing, there was no barrier to entry, and the standard form became applying it to everyday things: "You gave me a discount coupon, didn't you? Then I'd never have bought this damn thing." The same format followed on theqoo, Instiz, and Nate Pann.

What stands out about the spread is how it merged with fandom. Posting the line over a photo or GIF of a favorite actor or idol became the norm, which pushed the sentence out to people who had never watched the show. For the program, a single trailer did the work of building recognition before it even aired.
