My Black Swan, I Fell in Love with You at First Sight

“My Black Swan, I fell in love with you at first sight” is a meme that began when Natty, a member of the girl group KISS OF LIFE, told a story from her pre-debut trainee days. On 19 August 2024, Natty and her groupmate Julie held a voice live session on the fan messaging platform Bubble, and it was there that she shared the episode.

By her account, she was disheartened that she still had to report to the practice room on her birthday as a trainee, so for that one day she went out in an all-black outfit with full makeup. She bought a drink at the café in front of the company building, and as she was heading back down to the practice room a man ran up and handed her a note. When she opened it with her members, it read “My Black Swan. I have been captivated by you since the very first moment I saw you.” Natty told the same story again on the JTBC variety show Knowing Bros, broadcast on 2 November 2024, this time as the origin of her nickname “Black Swan,” adding that she avoided wearing black after that day for fear of running into the man again. The note’s closing line is also rendered as “I fell in love with you at first sight” in some retellings, and that is the version that stuck as the meme.

Fans began quoting the line almost as soon as the live session ended. Natty played along by changing her own Bubble profile to “Black Swan,” and fan channels clipped the segment into YouTube Shorts that drew hundreds of thousands of views, carrying the moment to people who had never heard the original broadcast. By late August it had settled in on X (formerly Twitter) as a jujeop line — the Korean term for over-the-top gushing praise aimed at someone you adore — popular enough that a trend newsletter covered it as the catchphrase of the week.

It spread quickly because the sentence works as a fill-in-the-blank template. Anyone dressed in black can be slotted into the “Black Swan” position, and the framing of an out-of-nowhere confession from a stranger lets people imitate exaggerated declarations of affection without embarrassment. From September onward, even news headlines introducing idols’ all-black photo sets started reaching for the word “Black Swan.”

How it is used

The whole sentence functions as a template. You swap in a name after “My Black Swan” and leave the rest as is, so it works even for people who never heard the original story. The black-clothing condition is generally respected, and breaking it on purpose is itself the joke.

Posting a photo of an idol or actor dressed in black and swapping in the name: “My Black Swan [name], I fell in love with you at first sight.”
