Origin

The line, in full, is "Do I maybe... like you?" (혹시 나, 너 좋아하냐?). It is spoken by Kim Tan, played by Lee Min-ho, to Cha Eun-sang, played by Park Shin-hye, in The Heirs, a 20-episode SBS Wednesday–Thursday drama that aired from October 9th to December 12th, 2013, starring Lee Min-ho, Park Shin-hye and Kim Woo-bin.

The line arrives in episode 2 — barely a week into the show's run. The encounter that began with "Want to come to my place?" in episode 1 leads almost immediately into this confession. What made it distinctive is that a confession scene is phrased as a question rather than a statement: not "I like you" but "do I like you?", asked as though the speaker were checking his own feelings rather than addressing hers. That awkward phrasing became the signature of the character, and Korean outlets listed it among Kim Tan's best-known lines while the show was still airing.

SBS News and entertainment outlets ran "complete Kim Tan quote roundup" pieces during the season, and around the December 2013 finale papers such as Busan Ilbo picked best lines, grouping it with others like "Am I crazy for wanting to hold you?" The daily Newscj put "Do I maybe... like you?" directly in a headline.

Since then the line has become a stock phrase for imitating a confession scene in variety shows and parody videos. It is short, and swapping in a different name leaves it perfectly intact — an ease of quotation usually credited for its staying power.
