Do you feel the difference in power?

The phrase comes from a DCcon — an emoticon set used on DCInside. A user going by "Mang-gem Jeonmunga" in the gallery for Neowiz's mobile game Brown Dust made a set commonly called "Beubung-con," after the term for that gallery's regulars. The one reading "Can you feel the difference in power?" became by far the most widely used.

The original context was closer to self-deprecation than bragging. The set was drawn to criticize gacha systems built to squeeze money out of players — and, at the same time, to depict the heavy user who knows all this and keeps playing anyway. So the line simultaneously flaunts a gap in power bought with money and admits that the gap came from spending rather than skill.

That is also why the register is polite. Asking the question in formal speech instead of trash-talking turns the smugness into comedy, and lets mockery and self-mockery occupy the same sentence.

DCcons routinely escape the gallery they were made for, and this one is the textbook case. Once it left the Brown Dust gallery it circulated across gaming communities for demonstrating an overwhelming power gap, and from there onto boards with no connection to games at all, wherever someone wanted to flaunt an advantage. Most people using the phrase today have no idea which game community produced it.
