Origin
Skibidi Toilet began with an 11-second video posted to the YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom! (now renamed "skibidi") on February 7, 2023. Its creator is animator Alexey Gerasimov, born 1997–1998 and known online as Blugray. He lives in the Republic of Georgia, has studied animation since 2014, and produces the series as machinima using Valve's Source Filmmaker. The first video's description read only "toilet in Ohio," a nod to the Ohio memes circulating at the time. The production history is documented in the English Wikipedia article on Skibidi Toilet.
The theme attached to the video is an unlicensed mashup of a Timbaland track and Bulgarian artist Biser King's "Dom Dom Yes Yes," stitched together by TikTok user @doombreaker03. That looping, largely unintelligible audio over a shot of human heads singing out of toilet bowls was the entirety of the first upload.
Spread
It initially traveled through YouTube Shorts and TikTok in short-video form, then exploded between May and June 2023 and broke into the mainstream. In Korea the trend took hold around June 2023. By November 2023 related videos had passed 65 billion YouTube views, and the TikTok hashtag reached 23 billion views by July 2024. The Washington Post called it "the biggest online phenomenon of the year," and YouTube named Skibidi Toilet its top trend of 2023.
What stands out about the spread is how heavily its audience skews toward Generation Alpha. The videos have almost no dialogue, leaving only internet slang, game references, and toilet humor, so adults — and often Gen Z as well — cannot follow the context. It is frequently cited as the first meme to originate with Gen Alpha and then break into the mainstream.
Variants and derivatives
The series' premise is total war between the Skibidi, a species of human-headed toilets led by G-Toilet, and a human faction with cameras, speakers, and televisions for heads. That conflict spawned a flood of fan games, fan fiction, and fan art, and the slang term "skibidi" — with no fixed meaning — spread on its own. In July 2024 it was announced that Michael Bay and Adam Goodman were developing a hybrid live-action and animated film and series. In October 2025, however, a dispute over creative control involving the company Invisible Narratives triggered the fan-led #BringBoomBack movement.
Usage
- Cited as the standard example when older generations cannot parse how Gen Alpha talks.
- Used as a catch-all label for loud, context-free, vaguely grotesque content.
- Dropping "skibidi" into a sentence as a meaningless interjection or filler.
- Talking, half-resigned, about children being completely absorbed in the series.
