Origin

The source is the first game of Netflix's Squid Game season 2, Red Light Green Light. Sung Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) repeatedly shouts "Ice!" at the other players — and by accounts from the set, Lee shouted loudly enough to startle his castmates. The actor Lee Seo-hwan recalled that he "shouted really loudly; every single word had to reach everyone," and that his voice was somehow fine the next day.

What turned the line into a meme was the YouTuber JFF. His one-minute-24-second track "Sung Gi-hun – Ice", released on January 8, 2025, sets the repeated shouts of "Ice!" and the contestants' chant of "one more round" over a bright, upbeat melody.

The video passed 1.6 million views within five days. The notable part is who responded: Netflix's official account commented "One more song! One more song!" on the video, asking the creator for a follow-up. A rights holder egging on derivative work rather than shutting it down was itself covered as news.

This was not JFF's first hit. He had previously remixed scenes featuring the actor Hwang Jung-min past 7 million views; "Ice" was the same method applied to Squid Game.

Why it lands

In the original the stakes are lethal and Gi-hun's shouting is desperate. Laying that voice over bright musical-theater chords sets the meaning of the words directly against the emotion of the music. Not a syllable of dialogue is changed, yet the scene's feeling flips — which is why the drop is largest for people who watched the show.
