Yuushi Speech Style

Origin

The meme comes from the distinctive cadence of Yushi, the Japanese member of the boy group NCT WISH, when he speaks Korean. The signature form is "jokenne" — the Korean "jokenne" (it would be nice) as rendered through a Japanese speaker's phonology. The most-quoted source utterance is "it would be nice if I could sing during my own part."

The humor lies not in the pronunciation but in the stance the ending creates. "It would be nice" is a wish, not a demand. Rather than asking for something directly, the speaker floats it as a hope, which puts no pressure on the listener while still getting the point across. Combined with Yushi's soft, measured delivery, it registered as a way of asking timidly but adorably.

Spread

At first it circulated inside the fandom as a quirk of his speech, then escaped because anyone can use it simply by appending the ending to a sentence. The main venue was X, where applications like telling your parents "it would be nice if you gave me a little allowance" caught on. The convention of writing the whole phrase without spaces, as one block, dates from this period.

By August 2024 it was quoted in the title of an advertising-industry monthly meme roundup as "it would be nice if I could buy Dubai chocolate." That marks the point where an idol fandom meme became an object of marketing trend analysis.

NCT WISH's own content contributed as well. Segments such as the "it would be nice if you did this" game played on a countdown live show turned the speech pattern into material, letting the meme move back and forth across the fandom boundary.

Variants and derivatives

Another meme from the same figure is "kkinyeo-ogeora." It began with an edited Yushi image made by an NCT WISH fan on X, and then spread far more widely outside the fandom once a version appeared with Yushi's photo replaced by a dog. It only went mainstream after being reworked into a form that requires no knowledge of the original person.

The "jokenne" side has multiple spellings in circulation, all of which deliberately diverge from standard orthography — misspelling is itself the device that reproduces the accent.
