Why are the standards for me so strict?

Origin

The line comes from a live broadcast by the Korean streamer Noraehaneun Coat. The source clip shows him arguing with viewers on a day he started his stream late: called out for being late, he shouted back, almost wailing, "Why are the standards this strict only for me!"

The matter at hand was trivial — showing up late to a stream. That is precisely why it became a meme. The gap between a minor complaint and a full emotional outburst, plus how genuinely aggrieved the delivery sounds, means that lifted out of context the line plays like someone protesting a far graver injustice. Because it works even for people who have never seen the original, it spread quickly beyond his own audience.

Spread

Early circulation happened on streaming-focused Korean communities, FMKorea in particular. A short clip goes up on YouTube, the clip gets reposted into community threads — the standard route. Since one line carries the whole situation, it also travelled widely as stills and subtitle screenshots.

What decisively widened its reach was SNL Korea. Actor Heo Sung-tae, appearing as host, parodied the line, putting it in front of viewers who do not watch internet broadcasts at all. Coat took the parody in good humor and has since worked the "strict standards" bit into his own streams regularly — a case of the originator reclaiming the meme as part of his repertoire.

Two phrasings circulate, one with "the standards for me" and one with "the standards only for me." The version closer to what was actually said is the latter, but both read as the same meme.
