Origin
"No, I got caught too" (ani nado japhyeosseo) is a line from episode 61 of the Japanese anime Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (1972), which aired in Japan on November 25th, 1973.
The scene involves team leader Ken the Eagle and the youngest member, Jinpei the Swallow. Held captive by Galactor, Jinpei sees Ken appear and naturally assumes his leader has come to rescue him. The answer he gets is "No, I got caught too." The whole joke is that mismatch — one of them expecting rescue, the other having arrived in exactly the same condition, facing each other inside the same cell.
How It Differs From the Source
One thing deserves noting. In the image macro Ken looks like an incompetent leader who walked in and got taken without a plan, but the episode itself says otherwise. In episode 61 Ken is captured along with the rest of the team after being deceived by the villain Berg Katse, who was disguised as Red Impulse. The team then escapes using Joe the Condor's equipment and turns Katse's own transmitter against him, tricking Galactor into attacking its own base.
In other words, only the dialogue is authentic. Cropping away everything before and after left just the two lines, and out of that came the images of a naive kid counting his chickens and a useless leader. This is why fans of the original series so often show up to add context — it's a clear case of a single screencap rewriting a character's reputation.
How It's Used
- When you went to help someone and ended up in the same predicament
- When you were brought in to fix things and changed nothing
- When you asked a senior colleague and found out they didn't know either
- As a preemptive answer to someone looking at you with expectation
