Origin

"Ooo Ssal Ssal Ssal" is the hook of "Ihaega Ssokssok Doejanha Rishyungjwaga", an AI-generated song posted by the YouTube channel Girang. The title is long and hard to pronounce, so people simply named the meme after the chorus — "Woo! Woo woo woo woo! Ssal ssal ssal!" The nickname ended up displacing the actual song title.

The backdrop is the AI-cover and AI-composition wave that ran through Korean YouTube from around July 2024. After AI-generated tracks such as "Da Haejwotjanha" broke out, it became a short-lived format to take community posts or broadcast quotes verbatim and render them as songs. This track is among the most widely spread MapleStory-themed results of that wave.

Structurally the song is a cypher — the street hip-hop format in which several rappers trade verses over one beat. Different voices take turns, each delivering its own "analogy."

Where the lyrics came from

The key point is that the creator did not write the lyrics. They were lifted, almost untouched, from actual posts on the MapleStory board of Inven, a Korean gaming community. MapleStory players have a habit of explaining the game's drop rates, monetization and update structure through long restaurant-and-food analogies; pile enough of those metaphors on top of each other and it becomes impossible to tell what part of the game was being explained in the first place.

The song simply set that unintelligibility to music. An outsider cannot follow a single line, yet the title insists that "you understand it perfectly." That gap is the joke. A reply left on one of the original analogy posts — "joeun biyunaeyong" ("nice analogy~") — also outgrew the post itself and hardened into a stock phrase of its own.

The video is a collage too. The hook footage is taken from Detroit: Become Human, from the branch in which Connor falls to his death while trying to save a hostage, and the dances performed by the characters in the video were produced with Viggle AI templates. Lyrics, video and music are all borrowed material — which says a lot about what kind of meme this is.
