"Bum Biddy" is a song from the 2002 adult animated film Eight Crazy Nights, a Hanukkah-set musical comedy written by, produced by and starring Adam Sandler. The scene in question comes at the town's All-Star Banquet, where the attendees break into a group song and dance.
Calling it a song is generous: the lyrics are essentially the phrase "Bum biddy biddy biddy bum bum" on repeat. Because it means nothing, it needs no context, which is why someone who has never seen the film can take the twenty-odd-second clip as a complete piece of content on its own. That meaninglessness is a large part of why the meme detonated two decades later.

The scene was uploaded to YouTube as early as April 2nd, 2007, accumulating over 170,000 views across seventeen years. A higher-quality version posted on November 29th, 2016 passed 3 million views in eight years. Up to this point, though, it was a film clip in circulation, not a meme format.
The format arrived in August 2019, when YouTuber Sprinkle Sprinkle Candy Bar posted an animation of Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants dancing to the tune, establishing the rule: make any character do the dance. Through 2023 the cast widened to include Peppino from Pizza Tower and characters from Smiling Friends.
The explosion came in October 2024, when TikToker @natural_selections posted an original sound pairing the song with wildlife footage. It passed 2.1 million views within a month and spawned roughly 5,000 derivative videos. From that point it stopped being an animation-fandom meme and became a general-purpose TikTok sound.
