Origin

"Lostreak Chicken" is the nickname overseas audiences gave to Ji Ge (鸡哥), the anthropomorphic rooster created by the Chinese independent animator Xingyouye (星有野). His real name is Fu Xingming. He started posting flipbook animations drawn in the corners of school notebooks on Kuaishou under the handle "Shuxing" as a middle schooler, gathering 160,000 followers; a line-drawing flipbook he uploaded to Douyin right after the 2017 college entrance exam passed 30 million views and 800,000 likes. His real breakout came in 2020, when he began the "Xingyouye" animated shorts. According to an interview published by Yicai (China Business News) in March 2025, he founded the studio Kandao Culture in Chengdu in 2024 and, as of that report, had 12.81 million Douyin followers and 5.8 million on Bilibili. He has been named one of Bilibili's Top 100 creators four years running.

In the shorts, Ji Ge is a scruffy rooster living in a run-down city among anthropomorphic lions and Dobermans. He looks unimpressive but never backs down from a fight — a loyal, swaggering "big brother" figure. That characterization is exactly why he ended up as the final, strongest entry in ranking memes.

The shorts reached non-Chinese audiences through the creator's own TikTok account, 星野爸爸_xingyebaba, and through countless reuploads. English-speaking viewers could not read the character's name and simply adopted "Lostreak Chicken" from the subtitle captions, and that spelling stuck as the title on 9GAG, iFunny and YouTube Shorts reuploads. The creator's early YouTube channel was deleted, which made the originals hard to trace and left unattributed reuploads to circulate first.

In Korea the meme arrived through TikTok and YouTube Shorts and fused with the "power ranking" format: characters are listed from weak to strong and Ji Ge occupies the last slot. You do not need to have watched the series — knowing the rule "the chicken is the strongest" is enough to use it.
